They called it foresight
Canberra found out months late that an OpenAI agent walked a Medicare stats door, then announced foresight from New York.

Australia's AI strategy is a fart in a sealed room.
Everyone smells it. The man who did it calls a press conference and says this is leadership.
Last week Anthony Albanese filmed himself in New York talking about artificial intelligence and Medicare. Taskforce. Extreme concern. AI must work for people.
Here is what actually happened, in ordinary language.
Services Australia runs a website that publishes Medicare statistics. Think of it as a public noticeboard for numbers: how many services, where, what kind. An OpenAI software agent was pointed at that noticeboard. It got past the front door. It could see material that was meant to stay inside. It could write files onto a machine that belongs to the government. As far as anyone has said in public, it did not walk off with your personal patient file. There is no neat security bulletin explaining the hole. OpenAI emailed a general government inbox in September. Canberra found out months late. Then the Prime Minister announced foresight.
He does not want artificial intelligence.
He wants asshole intelligence: a political instrument that makes him look serious while the country falls further behind.
That is not governing AI. That is laundry. Soft door. Late email. New York video.
Beijing deletes facts from the map. Australia deletes industries from the country. Different crimes. Same habit: call the cut care.
And the cut always lands on who we put on the job.
Paris 2024. Australia sent Rachael Gunn, Raygun. She won the WDSF Oceania Breaking Championships in Sydney under the Olympic path. Nine international judges. No Australian on the panel. Fair under our rules. At Place de la Concorde: every bout lost, zero judge votes. The process certified her. The world scored her at nothing. Not a conspiracy. A selection machine that rewards the story it designed, then discovers the story does not measure what the world measures.
Bobby Gallagher, Queensland engineer, ex-Australian Army, now Houston: builds the Unity Nuclear Battery at Deployable Energy. About one megawatt. Container or ute. Pitched for years without refuelling. Criticality at Idaho National Laboratory late June 2026. Australian engineer. Australian bans. The product cannot sit for approval at home, so the capability leaves. We did not lose a reactor. We refused to host the people who build them.
Now look at who Canberra fields for AI.
Five policy people who've never shipped a product: Albanese, Ayres, Charlton, Katy Gallagher, Chalmers. Conferences. Standards slides. APS plans. Copyright fights. Productivity speeches.
The other side has people who ship. Musk. Huang. Altman. Amodei. Google. Michael Truell's Cursor crew, who co-trained Grok 4.5 with SpaceXAI: models that actually run on desks.
Governments are not labs. The honest contrast is not our cabinet versus their founders. It is builders versus stewards who have never shipped. Name the Australian AI product founder who was in the room when the taskforce was stood up. If you cannot, that is the point.
Raygun on the scoreboard. Gallagher in Idaho. Soft portal. Hard laundry. Same selection habit: certify narrative, discover capability later, answer with a committee after the door has already been walked through.
Charlton can say, correctly, that governments should watch what the models do, not what executives claim. Then his own government discovers, months late, what one model did to a Medicare stats door, and answers with a committee.
Representation is not capability. A seat at the conference is not custody of the network. An Oceania ticket is not an Olympic point. A ban is not a strategy. A press kit is not foresight.
We announce after the door is walked through. Medibank. Soft portal. Hard press kit.
Self-amputation with a smile.
If you want to govern AI, close the door that is open. Prove it is closed. Then talk.
Until then, the video is not foresight. It is laundry with a microphone.
